Local network computers often have limited access to the Internet ( including Z39.50 protocol). In this case a proxy-server is necessary for the user's work on the Internet.
Z39.50 LibNavigator Proxy is a proxy-server software, using Z39.50 for the query transmission to the bibliographic resources. A Proxy is a specialized server which transmits data from remote servers to the local network computers. Its main aim is to separate the local network computers and the Internet for the sake of security, and all the connections are made via the proxy-server.
Most proxy-servers work by HTTP protocol as they are meant for data retrieval from the web-servers. A special proxy-server (which is Z39.50 LibNavigator Proxy, developed by us) using Z39.50 protocol is necessary for accessing bibliographic resources.
"Z39.50 LibNavigator Proxy" offers the advantages of using proxy-server in full measure, but at the same time it is very convenient to operate. It is achieved due the following reasons:
- Minimizing the parameters needed to install a proxy-server, which are set by successive questions with a detailed explanation of the purpose of each parameter.
- Usage of Windows services, which launch automatically with the system start-up, so there is no need to do it manually.
All information of the queries, transmitted via Z39.50 LibNavigator Proxy, is saved to the statistics file of the local disk for further analysis.
